Trauma-Informed Schools

Phoenix-Talent Schools uses trauma-informed practices to help students build self-regulation skills, coping skills and self-efficacy—which are helpful whether they’ve experienced trauma or not.

Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACES) trainings help Phoenix-Talent staff and parents understand how brain development occurs and the impacts of trauma on health and education to help build resilience in children and teens.  Learn more at Southern Oregon Success.

PAX Good Behavior Game is being used by Talent, Phoenix, and Orchard Hill Elementary Schools, thanks to continued support from All Care. The PAX Good Behavior Game is comprised of research-based strategies that adhere to one or more of the key principles of a trauma-informed approach: Safety, Trustworthiness and Transparency, Peer Support, Collaboration and Mutuality, Empowerment Voice and Choice, Cultural Historical and Gender Issues. Restorative practices are based on principles that emphasize the importance of positive relationships as central to building community, and involves processes that repair relationships when harm has occurred. Restorative Justice in schools is a set of principles and practices that supports teachers, students and families in building relationships, strengthening community and repairing relationships and community after harm.

  • Restorative Justice is a whole-school approach at Talent Middle and Phoenix High Schools for integrating restorative justice principles and practices into school culture and discipline. Results include improved school climate, fewer office discipline referrals, and fewer suspensions.
  • Student Peer Mediation engages students with conflict resolution skills to help their peers work together to resolve everyday disputes.  This, in turn, helps our students become problem solvers and better citizens.
